the XX Win Mercury Prize

I can't tell you how happy I am about this! Definitely one of the best bands to happen in years!
The XX won the UK's coveted Mercury Prize for album of the year, their debut The XX.
Here they are modestly accepting the award.

Here's their video for one of my favorite songs of theirs, Crystalised!

Act da Fool by Harmony Korine for Proenza Schouler

Although this film has the look and feel of director Harmony Korine's earlier controversial works such as Kids, which he wrote for director Larry Clark, and Gummo which he wrote and directed, I find it to be both brutally honest yet mockingly repulsive.

I'm sure the girls were happy to wear such beautiful clothes for the film, however, it's just not the same as "gifting" a pair of jeans to a 13 year old fashion darling...

Are they all just products of their environments?

New Sofia Coppola film

I am very excited to see this film by the always great Sofia Coppola! "Somewhere" stars actor Stephen Dorff as a down and out guy whose young daughter played by actress Elle Fanning, Dakota's younger sister, comes to live with him.

I can't wait for the soundtrack either. Julian Casablancas sings "I'll Try Anything Once" as sweet as a lullaby. Sigh...and of course, Phoenix is on there, too!

Au Revoir Corinne Day et Merci

Today, iconic fashion photographer Corinne Day has lost her decade-long battle against a brain tumor.
I first heard of Corinne Day in 1990 when I bought a copy of  The Face Magazine. It was probably one of the most expensive magazines I'd ever purchased at the time (around $5.00) and I was drawn to the wonderful cover of a happy girl in a Native Indian headdresss. The girl on the cover was 15 year old Kate Moss. I really loved the editorial, not so much because it featured fashion, it actually had very little of it, but because of the youthful energy that seemed real. It was one of Kate Moss's first jobs and the start of a career long friendship between the photographer and model. The two met during a photoshoot for British Vogue also in 1990 which was Kate's first cover.
One of the most important photographers of the 90's, Corinne was a pioneer of "grunge"movement in fashion by featuring gamine models whose look would soon come to be called "herion chic".

Cole Haan & Interview Party

On Thursday night, August 25th, Cole Haan and Interview Magazine held an intimate soiree at the New Museum for the launch of Maria Sharapova's Fall 2010 shoe collection. The party was hosted by tennis star/ designer,  Maria Sharapova and Todd Selby of the cool apartment blog, The Selby. Fabulous DJ Lindsey Caldwell, who is also a model in Cole Haan's FW10 campaign, kept the party pumping with our favorite tunes.
In addition to photographing the campaign Selby also auctioned off framed water colors of his artwork for the charity Common Cents.

Every Day is Like Sunday

Well, this week it feels like it in NYC, dreary yet mysteriously beautiful. I can't help but feel like I'm in a Morrissey video from the late 80's with all the gray damp weather. I can't say that I mind at all.

Ahhh, Viva Hate, a true gem.
Thanks Moz!
