Today, iconic fashion photographer Corinne Day has lost her decade-long battle against a brain tumor.
I first heard of Corinne Day in 1990 when I bought a copy of The Face Magazine. It was probably one of the most expensive magazines I'd ever purchased at the time (around $5.00) and I was drawn to the wonderful cover of a happy girl in a Native Indian headdresss. The girl on the cover was 15 year old Kate Moss. I really loved the editorial, not so much because it featured fashion, it actually had very little of it, but because of the youthful energy that seemed real. It was one of Kate Moss's first jobs and the start of a career long friendship between the photographer and model. The two met during a photoshoot for British Vogue also in 1990 which was Kate's first cover.
One of the most important photographers of the 90's, Corinne was a pioneer of "grunge"movement in fashion by featuring gamine models whose look would soon come to be called "herion chic".
